Hey, let's see if this works!

In my classroom, I had the students work with a discussion post board. I had each of the classes
come up with a different topic under current events. Once the class came up with a current event,
I had all of the students go into the Schoology discussion board and discuss the article topic and
give their feelings and opinions. Once they had their own original discussion topic, they were tasked
with reading through other student’s responses and responding to their posts. It allowed for students
who do not normally discuss out loud in class to have another form of representation of their ideas that they may be more comfortable with. For it being the first time using this tech method, I did not give them a length requirement. I was genuinely curious how much they would write. I was pleasantly surprised at how well they did for the first time. Below is a screenshot of part of the discussion from 3rd Block’s discussion on the possibility of a Border Wall Shut Down as alluded to by President Trump.

I have been pleased with this effort for it being the first time for a class discussion. The students tomorrow will have to do more responses to their classmates. I got good feedback from some of the students today. I feel like this will be a good tool to continue to do and refine as a move forward in my educating. It is also easy for me to grade. I just looked through and checked off who passed the requirements of posting original posts and responses. As I keep doing this I might change the format to a different style of response/questioning.
