Using Schoology to Facilitate Student Learning

This year one of my main focuses has been on trying to incorporate schoology as a tool to help my facilitate student learning through the use of a variety of aspects.  For me one of the major important aspects of schoology that I appreciate is the ability to use tools as a way to distribute content to the students and to allow students access to content at all times.  For me this shows up in a variety of ways.  One of the positive ways that I worked this week on trying to use the YouTube embedded linking of videos to allow students who are not in class access to a focused content description of what we went over in class so they are not missing the explanations or content of what we are going over while they are gone.  I also have worked on trying to embed practice activities such as Quizlet to allow students access to practice on the content wither that they have gone over in class or the content that they have missed.  This empowers students to be able to be accountable for their learning and to get practice at the content that they need in order to be successful in class.

In the picture below you can see how I was able to embed the Quizlet list Familia to the schoology page in the correct folder for the unit that we are working on.  If the students click on this link they will be able to get access to this content.  We also used this in class to organize our content and find the practice that we needed for class in order to help them succeed.

I was also able to use the YouTube embed option on schoology to allow the students access to the content that we were going over in class.  One of the examples of this is located in the picture below.  We used this in class this week where I knew that a number of students were going to be gone so I posted these videos on schoology to explain to the students the content that they missed as well as examples of how to apply the content.  In class, I used this to explain the content first and give the students an overview of the idea we were going to go over before our lecture so I was more of a facilitator of cleaning up students content concerns and knowledge as opposed to a lecturer

I know that I am still working on scratching the surface of what schoology has to offer and how I can work to continue to facilitate students learning to a higher degree.  I feel like the use of embedding tools has gotten much easier for me over this week and throughout the school year and I can continue to grow in my ability to use this and other tools as I grow in my use of schoology.
