Rubric Making

I was interested in how to create and use rubrics so that students would know and understand what I expect when they do science projects and presentations. Research says that if students know the target ahead of time, they are more likely to reach it.
In Schoology, I discovered that you can create a rubric that has as many columns as you wish, you can type a  lot of information in the descriptions, and you can go back and edit it as much as you want.
The steps to making a rubric are:
1. Go to your "Courses" and open the one that you would like to use the rubric in.
2. Then find "Grade Set Up" in the left hand menu.

3. In the upper right hand corner of the page, click the "Add" button in the
Scales - Rubrics section and then select "Rubric" to open the rubric editor.

4, Create a Rubrics Title. Then if you want to change anything, click on it and change it. If you want to add a column, hover over the edge line, and click the (+) button. If you want to add more criteria, just click the (+) Criteria button at the bottom of the page. Click save, and then you can share it with other courses.

Create an assignment, then click the ear icon to the right of an existing material and select Edit.
Click on the scale/Rubric menu, and select the rubric you want to use.
It shows up at the bottom of the assignment for the students to see.

I really like this for students to be able to refer to as they work. If they ask me if something is good enough, I just told them to go to the rubric and decide where it falls. Then they can decide it it is "good enough."
